Mau coming to terms, slowly

Mau, Oct. 20. — The situation in riot-torn Mau town of Uttar Pradesh was limping back to normality today with the district administration relaxing curfew for many hours enabling women and children to purchase essentials.
Curfew was relaxed between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. as no untoward incident was reported from any part of the town today, principal secretary (Home) Mr Alok Sinha said in Lucknow. Mr Sinha exuded confidence that train services through the town, suspended in the wake of the riots last week, would be restored by tonight following marked improvement in the situation. DM Mr Mukesh Meshram said in Mau that the situation in Mau where nine persons were killed and 40 others injured in communal violence that erupted over Dussehra celebrations, was well under control. Security personnel continued to patrol the sensitive areas of the town and maintained a strict vigil, sources said. — PTI
